Today I got the pleasure of meeting many new families who have decided to homeschool their children.  It is always interesting to me how new families think and how they perceive what homeschool means to them.  I also spoke with many returning families and I got to hear about the progress that they have made since they started their homeschool lifestyle.  What amazes me are those returning parents that teach like a traditional school, hours and all.  I think for these parents it just feels comfortable teaching how you think your child would learn if they were in a traditional school.  STOP, please.  This is a reminder to all homeschoolers new and returning, THIS IS HOMESCHOOL!  We are free to be creative with our teaching, we are free to move on and go forward as fast as our child wants to go, we are free to be flexible.  We are free to think outside of the box.  Homeschool, it's a lifestyle.   TM : )

Hi Tracy, it was an absolute pleasure to meet you and the CHEP team yesterday. I came away from the ELA workshop feeling empowered and left the park raring to go and totally convinced that this is something that I..we...can do. THANK YOU!

However this morning I am having a rough start...my computer won't play ball with me, I STILL can't work out how to process all the ELA material, my 9 year old is feeding on my frustration level and acting out, my 7 year old is bored and I feel my grip on reality slipping away as I drift into the Twilight Zone!

Calgon take me away!!!! :(

Hi Sandra,

Please keep in mind that it takes time to digest all that was given to you. What a BIG serving on your plate! Take your time, take breaks, ease into your schooling with your girls. When one is bored, have her work on a project that she enjoys while you're helping the other.

And yes, if you can steal yourself away for 20 minute to jump into that bath, do it! : )

Hi Sandra,

Tracy is so right about needing that time to digest it all. You have so much to handle-- I only have 1 child and it seems like a lot to me on some days.

But I know you can do it if you allow yourself to make some mistakes and to say it's ok to have some bad days. The good days are up ahead and you will have more and more of those as time goes by! Not easy, no, but so worth it! : )

About the computer not playing ball-- my son just told me a funny "get even with the computer" joke that might make you smile:

"My computer just beat me at chess. But it was no match for me in kickboxing."
