"Listen to learn and learn to listen." This has been my favorite phrase to say to my 11 year old. It drives him nuts. "But Mom! What does that mean exactly? It's just a big circle!" I guess it's his age and it bugs him that it doesn't have a beginning or an ending. Now when we have "serious" conversation, he says it before me, "I know, I know, listen to learn and learn to listen." Good, he's getting it! TM : ) CommentsMM 01/03/2010 10:35am
That's cute to read about! I think it's great to offer little bits of wisdom to our kids, especially when it forces them to dig a little deeper for the meaning. If they can, one day, truly understand it for themselves, then they have discovered a bit of true wisdom... not just "in one ear and out the other" words, but a meaningful thought to live by. : )
