"Of course you can do that.  Anything you want to be, you can."  Those are the words I say most to my children on a daily basis.  Knowing that as a parent, I can encourage my kids to be great, is such a satisfying feeling.  Homeschool encourages greatness in ANY subject that my children are interested in.  Another point for homeschool.  TM : )

When I was around 10 years old, I had a revelation about my calling in life. I told my mom that I was going to ride my bike from school to school and educate children about caring for the environment.

My mother answered, "well, that's a nice idea in theory. we always have nice ideas as children, that aren't realistic, and can't work out".

and I will never, ever forget how deflated I felt after she said that. and I will never, ever, say that in response to the precious entrustment of a child's beautiful vision or dream.
