Race Car or Homeschool Mom? 04/04/2011
It's Monday and I can feel change in the air. Thank goodness we homeschool and change can be made swift and accordingly. I like to think of us homeschool Moms as speedy, little, convertibles when it comes to teaching our children. We can change gears to pass the big rigs (traditional schools), we can maneuver around the corners ("Mom... can we read instead?"), excel as fast as we want to go ("Hey Mom, I finished my 4th grade math and I'm only in 2nd grade!") and when we're in park, all others look at our rims and tires and shiny paint and wish they could be like us (We have smart, respectful, and well mannered kids. Most of the time!)! So bring on the change... My engine is ready and the count is on... 3, 2, 1... GO! TM : ) 2 Comments Happy Birthday! 11/08/2010
Today is the day that I pat myself on the back and say a little cheer... "Hip, hip, hooray!" What's all the fuss about? I teach my kids about persistence and perseverance and today AskTracyAboutHomeschool.com is a year old! I couldn't have done it without the wonderful readers from all over leaving me kind words in the form of comments and sending me encouraging emails. For those of you that have picked my brain about homeschool, Thank You, as the questions you have asked have stretched my ability to help others. I hope the words you read here encourage you to keep on going. To help teach your children to be the best that they can is an accomplishment that no person or place (traditional school) can ever take away from you. TM : ) Curriculum for Today... VOTE! 11/02/2010
I hope you take the time today to talk about our country and why we vote. I would also encourage talking about what it means to be an American. I think the traditional school system has forgotten to include this topic as it may be politically incorrect. Politically incorrect to talk about what it means to be a proud American? I am so glad I homeschool!!!! TM : ) Read "Dumbing Us Down" 09/13/2010
The more I read about the school system in our country, the more I am thankful that I am able to homeschool my children. I'm once again reading, "Dumbing Us Down" by John Taylor Gatto. As I reread the pages that I've read so long ago, I am reminded that what I do, what we do, is important. It's more than education, it's a feeling of wholeness. For our children and for our families. Keep doing what you are doing, it's working! TM : ) Friday, Friday, Friday... 09/10/2010
I know. It's only been a couple of weeks since we started school and I'm already counting down the Fridays. It must be something I learned in traditional school, because if I was a product of homeschool, Fridays probably wouldn't mean as much. Okay, never mind that idea. I can hear my kids in the background with the happy chant of, "Yea, it's Friday!" So here's to Friday!!! Have a great weekend! TM : ) Free to Homeschool 08/31/2010
Today I got the pleasure of meeting many new families who have decided to homeschool their children. It is always interesting to me how new families think and how they perceive what homeschool means to them. I also spoke with many returning families and I got to hear about the progress that they have made since they started their homeschool lifestyle. What amazes me are those returning parents that teach like a traditional school, hours and all. I think for these parents it just feels comfortable teaching how you think your child would learn if they were in a traditional school. STOP, please. This is a reminder to all homeschoolers new and returning, THIS IS HOMESCHOOL! We are free to be creative with our teaching, we are free to move on and go forward as fast as our child wants to go, we are free to be flexible. We are free to think outside of the box. Homeschool, it's a lifestyle. TM : ) Awesome Teacher 03/09/2010
Today I am here to remind you (and me) that you are an awesome teacher! Please do not second guess yourself as you know your children better than anyone else, especially a stranger in a strange place that is the traditional school setting. I don't know if it's because I have been homeschooling for some years now, but the idea of leaving your 5 year old with a complete stranger is just beyond me! So with that being said, please don't hesitate and wonder how you're doing with your kids in the teaching department. You are doing a great job! TM : ) The Best You Can Be 01/26/2010
This is your life. This is your chance to make your life the best it can be. This is your chance to make your life count when it comes to making someone else's life the best it can be. Do you do that? Are you thinking about it? Don't think so hard, do you know why? Because you DO make someone's life the best it can be everyday. When you are making your life the best it can be, you are teaching your children that they too can live their life the best it can be. You pave the way for your children every single day to live life to the fullest. I don't think you'll find that lesson plan at a traditional school on a day to day basis. Homeschool, it's more than just another work page, it's a lifestyle! TM : ) Encouragement ~Part 2~ 11/13/2009
We all know about encouraging our kids, but how about encouraging each other? If you are reading this and you homeschool your children, pat yourself on the back and say, "I'm doing an excellent job!" If you are reading this and your children go to traditional school, pat yourself on the back and say, "I'm doing an excellent job!" No matter how we go about in educating our children, know that we all strive to do our best for our family. Each and every one of you is appreciated for your dedication for being the best parent that you can be to your children. Encouragement inspires everyone around you and that makes for a positive environment. TM : ) | E Komo Mai
