I'm Only Human 09/03/2010
Week number 2 and I'm still trying to figure out what I'm doing! Okay, that's okay, there is always next week. Hey! It's a three day weekend! Maybe by Tuesday I'll know where to find my brain and get into the swing of teaching once again... maybe. Have a safe weekend and when you visit next week, I'll have found my teacher cap and my pointer stick to point you in the right direction. TM : ) Free to Homeschool 08/31/2010
Today I got the pleasure of meeting many new families who have decided to homeschool their children. It is always interesting to me how new families think and how they perceive what homeschool means to them. I also spoke with many returning families and I got to hear about the progress that they have made since they started their homeschool lifestyle. What amazes me are those returning parents that teach like a traditional school, hours and all. I think for these parents it just feels comfortable teaching how you think your child would learn if they were in a traditional school. STOP, please. This is a reminder to all homeschoolers new and returning, THIS IS HOMESCHOOL! We are free to be creative with our teaching, we are free to move on and go forward as fast as our child wants to go, we are free to be flexible. We are free to think outside of the box. Homeschool, it's a lifestyle. TM : ) 7 Comments Me? Ready? 08/05/2010
So I wrote a post the other day asking if you were ready. But am I? The answer is........ NO! It must be the way I do things, I'm very lax about how I go about teaching my kids. This drives people who have a schedule CRAZY! I know I should be a little more structured, but this seems to work for us. But times are changing and this year my oldest will be in 7th grade. SOoooo, I plan on being, well, more timely? Maybe more organized? I'm holding my breath while writing this, but I'll keep you posted. In the meanwhile, what works for you? Have any suggestions for me? Have a wonderful day, and thanks for stopping by. TM : ) Smarter World 05/27/2010
You're doing it! Keep on going. With all this teaching going on, the world will be a much "smarter" place! TM : ) Smart Moms 05/26/2010
People think that homeschool is just for the kids, little do they know! Since becoming a homeschool Mom many years ago (going on 8 years!), I have to say, I've gotten pretty smart! I mean, I still have to do my homework, gotta keep up with the kids questions and act like I'm smarter then they are. You know what I mean. These homeschool kids think they're SO smart... oh wait a second, THEY ARE! Hey, if they're so smart, how did they get that way? A-HA! From us! WE DID IT! We gave them the tools, we gave them encouragement, we gave them our time, now look at them go! We did it, YOU did it, pat yourself on the back. We are smart homeschool Moms and we got that way teaching our kids. TM : ) Passionate Learning 05/17/2010
You are teaching your children to be the best at whatever it is they want to be. Doesn't it feel good knowing that they have a chance to be great at something they love? To learn something, to find it interesting, to want to do that for a living, when the light turns on at something they enjoy, it becomes a passion. Thanks to you, your children are finding their passion. Keep up the good work! TM : ) Best+Great=Success 05/07/2010
We have finished another week of teaching our kids to be the best they can be. You are finishing another week of learning that you are a great teacher. The best kids plus a great teacher equals a successful future. Good for you! TM : ) P.S. Happy Mother's Day! Counting Days vs. Counting Birds 05/06/2010
I'm having a hard time teaching school today. The weather is so nice, I'm counting the days when summer break starts. I feel like a kid sitting in class, staring out the window waiting for the bell to ring, praying that summer break would start tomorrow... Oh, is that so wrong of me? Teaching our kids to be the best is hard work, and hard work deserves a nice little break. Don't get me wrong, when a stranger asks me if we take summer off, I say, "Learning is all year long." Well it is, even if it's counting how many different types of birds are flying in the backyard! : ) Okay, back to school... I can do it, I'm almost there! TM : ) Are You Here? 05/04/2010
Be present. Right here, right now. Teaching our kids to be focused has to do with YOU (and me) being in the moment. Are you doing that? Or are you checking your iPhone for any new messages that you may have gotten and that message will still be there when you are finished helping your kids with that new math problem... breathe... Or, the one that always gets me out of the moment, the phone call from a family member that's calling to just say, "Hi!" I'm finally learning to use my voice-mail so I won't feel guilty about trying to get off the phone too soon when really, I shouldn't feel bad that I'm teaching my kids... breathe again... So, we're breathing, we're using our voice-mail, we'll check messages later, we are HERE, right now, how do you answer roll call in class... PRESENT! TM : ) Teach Kindness 05/03/2010
What did you teach today? Me? I'm teaching kindness. I think that if more parents made it an important part of their children's daily learning, we would have a better place to live. Think about it... "May I help you with that?, Would you mind...?, Thank you for being so thoughtful., OH, my pleasure!" I think that people (not ALL people), forget to be kind. Not intentionally, but just lacking to use kindness everyday to remind them how to behave. Just like anything else we do, the more you do it, the better you get. Teach kindness today for a kinder world tomorrow. TM : ) | E Komo Mai
