What? I Missed Friday? 12/18/2010
WOW... I never miss writing on Fridays! It must be all the sugar cookies I'm eating that's fogging up my abilities to remember anything but having another cookie! : ) OH, I have a repeat for that... Christmas Cookies Are you ready? You know, for the big week of eating freshly baked cookies that you were supposed to make for your neighbors but realized that between you and your kids, 4 cookies is just not enough to give as a gift. Can I make a longer sentence then that? Well, I know I can eat as many cookies as words in that sentence, does that count? I have to go now. The remaining cookies are calling my name. So I read this and thought, hey, it's so relevant for this time of the season. It also reminded me how of how things change from season to season. It's raining today and it's not supposed to let up for about a week, but I'm still feeling "pretty good." TM : ) Santa Claus Research Paper How are you feeling today? Me? I'm feeling pretty good! It's a beautiful day out, the sun is shining and I know that the holiday break starts at the end of this week. YEA!!! Don't get me wrong, I love homeschooling my kids, but it's hard for me to get out of the teacher mode and saying things like, "Hey, we can research the story of Santa Claus and write a paper!" So I will stop doing that for a few weeks and concentrate on singing carols (off key), wrapping presents, and hanging out with my family and friends. With all this teaching we've been doing, we all deserve and should be feeling pretty good! TM : ) Wednesday Repeat 12/08/2010
Guess what? I've been asked to write a column in the local community magazine about education! This will be a new type of writing for me as I know what I do best, encourage YOU. What a compliment though, and I hope I am able to educate people, even just one person, that there are choices when educating your child. Okay, on to another topic... Have I told you that I like what I wrote in the past? The one thing my site doesn't do well, or maybe I just don't know how to do it, is to bring my old writing to the front. Or at least mix it up so you can read what I wrote. So I think what I'll do is once a week make a repeat day. Let's start today with a holiday bit from last year called... Stress Free Holidays Eureka! I think I found it! The secrets to a stress free holiday season! Are you interested? It all started with the Christmas dinner. Christmas morning we would get up bright and early and then I would cook all day. Yea! Okay, not! So a few years back, I started having the big meal on Christmas Eve. And do you know what? Leftovers never tasted so good after playing with my kids all morning with all the new Christmas goodies. Another Christmas I learned that it's not all about Martha Stewart. My then 6 year old son was making a Christmas tree cake and got green frosting and colorful sprinkles all over the entire kitchen, tracking it from one room to another, right before we had dinner guests. I was the "Grinch" for sure and I'll never put Martha Stewart in front of my children's Christmas memories ever again. Now for the last stress buster... Christmas cards have been boycotted in my home. Wow, I feel so light I could float away! Quick, feed me some Christmas cookies and a cup of eggnog to keep me on the ground! : ) TM 4 Comments Repeat #6 11/10/2010
I don't know if it's the weather that's making me feel kind of tired, but I just found this in the archives and it really fit for today. It's called, "Say it with Me"... Now repeat after me... I am great. I am awesome. I am tired. I am teaching future leaders of this country. I am really sleepy. I am a good teacher. I am a good Mom. I am ready for bed. Well wait a second, what if you're reading this in the morning? Okay, repeat after me... I am great. I am awesome. I am teaching future leaders of this country. I am a good teacher. I am a good Mom. I am ready for a nap! TM : ) Repeat #5 09/23/2010
Hi! How are you doing today? Me? I'm doing good. Just like you, I need a little reminder to keep me going. So I found this in the archives to remind me and encourage you, it's called, "Remember?"... I am here to remind you that you chose homeschool for a reason. What was that reason? Do you remember? Of course you do. That's why you're still homeschooling. That reason is so important to you and your family. You changed your lifestyle for that reason. Keep that reason with you and put it in your back pocket. On days that are hard, pull that reason out of your pocket and remember. On days that are great, pull that reason out of your pocket and remember. Oh yeah, one more thing to remember, you're doing a great job! TM : ) Repeat #4 05/18/2010
Life has been pretty topsy-turvy around my household lately. Not in a bad way, just everything thrown in my direction at one time. We all go through it, we just have our certain time of the year when we do, and my chaos is usually about now. So to save some thinking room in my brain, I've got a repeat for you titled, New @ Homeschooling... When you are new to the homeschool lifestyle, please remember... You'll be OKAY! In the beginning, it is intimidating, it is new, it is scary to take on your child's education! To keep calm, take a deep breath and remember that you have decided to homeschool for a reason. Keep that thought with you as you move along this path that you are unfamiliar with. Please realize that you are not alone. We have all started where you are right now. If you are nodding your head in agreement with this post, read The Unknown when you have a moment. I promise, you'll be okay, I've still got my hair to prove it! TM : ) Repeat #3 04/28/2010
I just can't help it. I LIKE to reread what I wrote in the past. It worked then, and it still works now. My next repeat is called... Friendly Words to my Fellow Homeschoolers #2 Flexibility in homeschool does not always refer to your schedule. There is flexibility in what you teach, and how you teach it. Just because the directions say, "Add 1 cup of sugar", does that mean we have to? What if I use a 1/2 cup of sugar instead? Does that mean the recipe won't come out right? Or does that mean I made it especially for me? Thoughts to think about. TM : ) Repeat #2 04/07/2010
As I looked over my previous posts, I noticed something... I like rereading what I wrote. Just like when I write for you, I write for me. Reading prior posts also remind me what I'm doing and why I'm doing it. I came across this post, and it felt like today. It's called, "Simple". Simplicity should be left alone. If something is working, why fix it? Haven't we all heard the saying, "If it ain't broken...?", you know the rest. It's almost as if we are thinking, that if something is too easy, we need to improve on it by making it complicated so it's much more than it really is. So, how's your teaching? Why do I ask? Are you trying to make it more than what it really is? I know I do sometimes. Okay, note to self, 1+1= 2. Simple, leave it alone! TM : ) Repeat #1 03/04/2010
Every so often, I look back and read some of the stuff I've written. Wow, I'm pretty encouraging! Some stuff is worth repeating and I think I'll repeat the post titled, "Greatness". You're the BEST! Tell yourself that. Don't laugh! Just do it. Come on, say it with me, "I'm AWESOME!" Okay, so I changed a word. I'm allowed to do that. We are allowed to take something good and change it in to something GREAT! Isn't that what we do everyday teaching our kids? Taking kids that are good and making them great! TM : ) | E Komo Mai
