A Little Kindness 02/23/2010
Just a reminder and I know you already do... Practice kindness on a daily basis. Your children will reap the benefits of your already generous nature and learn by the examples that you are setting. Homeschool allows us to put kindness in our curriculum and practice it day in, and day out. And you know what they say, "Practice makes perfect!" TM : ) 1 Comment Schooling Options 02/22/2010
Today I was invited to go to a staff meeting with the teachers I work with through the county. I know what you're thinking, "If you're a homeschooler, why do you need a teacher?" I homeschool through the county and it is the most main stream way to homeschool in California. If you read my Options? page, I talk about the differences and what it all means. The reason I bring this up, is that no matter how you homeschool or who you go through to homeschool, there are always options. When you are unsure, KNOW that you have a choice. I know that the laws vary from state to state, but the "core" homeschooler within us will find a way. Options are everywhere, even at a county staff meeting. TM : ) Thanks For Visiting 02/20/2010
If you are reading this post on the above date (Saturday), I want to thank you. As most of you know, I'm here to help you through the week by encouraging you and making you feel that you are not alone in this thing we do daily... teaching our children. Homeschool can be lonely at times, but knowing that there is a place that you can click on for words that understand you, makes it a little less remote. Thanks again for visiting on your Saturday. Come back again as I enjoy your company. TM : ) Lists 02/10/2010
Lists are good. They tell me what to do... pay bills, return library books, don't forget tape from Target. What to buy... milk, bread, deli,... and some times it even tells me the top 10 reasons to___ (pick a subject and fill in the blank). So I have decided to make a list of my own. A top 5 list, because 5 is shorter than 10. My list will be on the top 5 reasons why we continue to homeschool, starting with #5. 5. Pajamas- we get to stay in them longer than most families. 4. Morning Rush Hour- we have none! 3. The library- Can we say, "Ghost Town"? How nice is it to have every aisle at your disposal? 2. Field Trips- I love field trips during the "off" season! We're not off, we're right on! #1 Genius Children!- What more can I say? TM : ) Not Webster's Definitions 02/09/2010
AskTracy's definition of flexibility, freedom and togetherness... Flexibility--Not just changing your schedule, but to be able to change up what you are teaching at that very moment. Freedom--To teach a subject that your children really enjoy and take as LONG as you want. But also to take the time to explain something that needs to be understood. Togetherness-- I don't think you need an explanation for this word. We are fortunate to be able to have a close relationship with our children because we homeschool. We get to be there first hand to hear their hopes and dreams and help guide them accordingly. Lucky them, lucky us! TM : ) The Unknown 02/04/2010
Fear of the unknown... It is not a complete homeschool package without it! Are we doing this right? Am I doing this right? Did we do enough work today? Ahhh, the endless worries of being a Mom/Teacher. Do you know you? Are you sure? Yes? What about your children? Know them pretty well? Well, yeah, we gave birth to these kids, but do you really know their hopes and dreams? Yes? Then guess what? You're in pretty good shape. You are not unknown to you. You are not unknown to your kids. You know the kids need reading, writing and math, so is it really an unknown how to homeschool? I know there's much more to it, but the basics are not an unknown. So... stop with the fear of the unknown and go with what you DO know. And then the unknown won't be so scary after all. TM : ) For or Against? 02/02/2010
Today I wrote this long blog to post that went on and on and I couldn't figure out an ending, just like this sentence, and decided against it. It happens. Just like when we try to teach our children something that goes on and on and their faces looking at you wondering does this really have an ending? Do we keep going? Or should we decide against it? What is great about homeschool, is that we have the option to keep our audience (our kids) intrigued by the learning and we can choose to decide against it when the learning is SOOOOOO long and boring. Gosh, I'm just racking up the points for homeschool! TM : ) Do you know? 01/27/2010
Growing, learning, changing. Which one comes first? Are you growing when you learn and then change comes? Or do you change because you're learning and with knowledge you grow? But yet another view would be if you learn then you change, and with change you grow. So which is it? I think there are no wrong answers. So why am I trying to confuse you and make your head spin? Because I'm here to give you a new view, and homeschool is exactly like these questions I gave you. Math, reading, writing. Which one comes first? Ha... Gotcha! There are many ways to teach your children, and there are no wrong answers. Only options. TM : ) The Best You Can Be 01/26/2010
This is your life. This is your chance to make your life the best it can be. This is your chance to make your life count when it comes to making someone else's life the best it can be. Do you do that? Are you thinking about it? Don't think so hard, do you know why? Because you DO make someone's life the best it can be everyday. When you are making your life the best it can be, you are teaching your children that they too can live their life the best it can be. You pave the way for your children every single day to live life to the fullest. I don't think you'll find that lesson plan at a traditional school on a day to day basis. Homeschool, it's more than just another work page, it's a lifestyle! TM : ) SchoolBus 01/20/2010
Oh my goodness! I can't even begin to tell you how hectic it's been around here. Homeschool has been so busy and then to add this crazy weather that we have been receiving in California is a book in itself. Huh? You too? Yep, we're homeschoolers! Here's a thought... why is it called homeschool when we are never home? We should name it something else, hmmm, like maybe NeverHome-School? Or School on Wheels, I KNOW, SchoolBus! Okay, maybe not. Do you have a better name? Yeah, okay, lets just keep it the same, Home-Sweet-Homeschool! TM : ) | E Komo Mai
