Free to Homeschool 08/31/2010
Today I got the pleasure of meeting many new families who have decided to homeschool their children. It is always interesting to me how new families think and how they perceive what homeschool means to them. I also spoke with many returning families and I got to hear about the progress that they have made since they started their homeschool lifestyle. What amazes me are those returning parents that teach like a traditional school, hours and all. I think for these parents it just feels comfortable teaching how you think your child would learn if they were in a traditional school. STOP, please. This is a reminder to all homeschoolers new and returning, THIS IS HOMESCHOOL! We are free to be creative with our teaching, we are free to move on and go forward as fast as our child wants to go, we are free to be flexible. We are free to think outside of the box. Homeschool, it's a lifestyle. TM : ) 7 Comments Beautiful Day to Homeschool 04/26/2010
What a great day to be a homeschooler! The weather is beautiful, reading can take place in the sunshine. The birds are singing, let's get the bird book out and identify which bird is which. There is a gentle breeze, how does the breeze make the wind chimes go? Did you see the new sprouts in the vegetable garden? Yep, being a homeschooler has its perks! TM : ) Remember? 04/21/2010
I am here to remind you that you chose homeschool for a reason. What was that reason? Do you remember? Of course you do. That's why you're still homeschooling. That reason is so important to you and your family. You changed your lifestyle for that reason. Keep that reason with you and put it in your back pocket. On days that are hard, pull that reason out of your pocket and remember. On days that are great, pull that reason out of your pocket and remember. Oh yeah, one more thing to remember, you're doing a great job! TM : ) Looking for an Expert Opinion? 04/20/2010
It's kind of funny how we all search Google, hoping that Google can give us the answer that we are looking for. Any advice that Google can give for homeschool information is always a favorite search and many times the questions are looking for an "expert opinion". Who is considered an expert at homeschool? Is it someone's opinion on how homeschool is supposed to be? Is it a poll? Is it what I am writing? None of these suggestions are correct. There are no experts in homeschool that you will find by searching Google. You want an expert opinion? The expert that you are looking for is within each homeschool family that take the time to really know how to homeschool their children. TM : ) Future Greatness 04/19/2010
Greatness. Homeschool allows us to teach our children greatness. We can teach them anything, they can succeed at anything, they can do anything, they can BE GREAT! But what's most important? They can be great at something they love. TM : ) Math... It's What's for Dinner! 03/26/2010
Where has the week gone? Oh yes... math for my 1st grader, Mark Twain literature homework for my 6th grader, math for my 1st grader, Ancient Civilizations- the tests for my 6th grader, math for my 1st grader, and oh yeah, did I mention math for my 1st grader? My youngest should be in college math in about another 2 weeks if she keeps this up! : ) The joys of homeschool. To really, really learn something and at your own pace is another point (make it a 2 pointer!) for homeschool! Have a wonderful weekend, see you on Monday. TM : ) Math... The New Black? 03/23/2010
Lately, math has been the favorite subject for my youngest. Believe it or not, math has been the ONLY subject that my little first grader will do. As she explains to me, "I have to master 4th grade math Mom!" I have been quite calm about this as she is past her grade level, but what about any other subjects? I do realize that anything to do with the alphabet; reading, writing, you know, ENGLISH, has gone out the window for the moment. So what am I to do? Well, ... I let her do as much as she wants. I have to remind myself that this is homeschool and math is the "new black". TM : ) Don't Forget 03/15/2010
Do you remember why you picked homeschool for your children? Just reading that sentence should take you back to the day you decided to homeschool. I bet you remember very clearly why and how you were going to do it. Now, go forward 6 months... do you still feel the same way? Speed up a year, still remember? You do, don't you?! All the ideas, all the fears and the unknown, now how do you feel? Not sure? Let me help remind you, look at your kids... are they happy?, are they smart?, well adjusted? Yes? Big improvements over time? You betcha! Am I a mind reader? No, I just remember that day we (my husband & I) decided to homeschool. TM : ) Something New 03/11/2010
Learning something new is always a little nerve racking. And if you have an audience that watch you live, OOHH BOY, the more you wish you could put a bag over your head! But let's think about this rationally... something new is adventurous! Something new is exciting. Something new is oh, so, scary! Now lets talk about homeschool. If you are new to this nontraditional type of education, welcome. And yes, it IS a bit scary when you first start homeschooling. But remember, it IS also adventurous and exciting as well. And for those of us who have been doing this for a while, we'll take the bags off our heads and welcome you! TM : ) New @ Homeschooling 03/01/2010
When you are new to the homeschool lifestyle, please remember... You'll be OKAY! In the beginning, it is intimidating, it is new, it is scary to take on your child's education! To keep calm, take a deep breath and remember that you have decided to homeschool for a reason. Keep that thought with you as you move along this path that you are unfamiliar with. Please realize that you are not alone. We have all started where you are right now. If you are nodding your head in agreement with this post, read The Unknown when you have a moment. I promise, you'll be okay, I've still got my hair to prove it! TM : ) | E Komo Mai
