Failing to Learn 11/16/2010
Sometimes you have to let them fail. I'm learning this the hard way with my first born. He will be 13 soon enough and it's time that I stop holding his hand. Sniff, sniff... I want to tell him that his history assignment is due in 3 days. He's had a week. I want to tell him if you wait until the 11th hour to do your literature assignment, then it won't be the best you can do. He had two weeks, but chooses two days prior to the class to even look at the assignment and now it's due tomorrow morning. This is normal, right? We all did this at one time or another, right? How do they learn? By keeping my mouth shut and letting him fail. As much as I want to help him and tell him what needs to be done, I have to let it go. I'm having a hard time with this because I'm a Homeschool Mom, and we're not supposed to let our kids fail... but we are supposed to let them learn. TM : ) 4 Comments Tell Me About the Time... 11/04/2010
Parents ask me all the time about when I first started homeschooling my kids. They think I was born a Homeschool Mom. I gotta laugh. They are always amazed when I tell them. When I first started homeschooling, the feelings I had were, "OH MY Gosh... what am I thinking?" Did you feel like that too? Some of us know from the beginning that they want to homeschool their children, then there are those like myself! Kind of clueless, not sure what this is all about, and can I do it? Only time will tell and I'm working on my 8th year homeschooling my kids, so I must be doing something right. But what I can say without a doubt, is that homeschool is a lifestyle. The longer you do it, the more confident you become and watching your kids succeed in what they do is the biggest reward. Today I am reflecting on who that person was that these parents ask me about and where I am today. I'm proud of myself for what I have accomplished so far. And if you have others asking you about when you first started homeschooling, take a deep breath, giggle about the person that you used to be, and be proud, VERY proud. TM : ) P.S. Not sure why my fonts are funky! Today I got to talk with many homeschool Moms about, can you guess? Yep, homeschool! It's the time of the year when the glow of being a new homeschool family starts to fade and either you're moving right along or the frustrations start to sink in. Most times the second reason wins. The frustration of being new to something so unconventional and out of the box can be rather intimidating. Please remember why you chose homeschool for your kids to begin with. It will encourage you to keep moving forward and help you get through the frustrations of the moment. And it is, just a moment. Find a friend (me?) that can be your shoulder to lean on and lean! You will be amazed at what you thought was frustrating at one time is no longer. Keep going, you can do it, you're doing a great job! Have a wonderful weekend! TM : ) Smart Moms 05/26/2010
People think that homeschool is just for the kids, little do they know! Since becoming a homeschool Mom many years ago (going on 8 years!), I have to say, I've gotten pretty smart! I mean, I still have to do my homework, gotta keep up with the kids questions and act like I'm smarter then they are. You know what I mean. These homeschool kids think they're SO smart... oh wait a second, THEY ARE! Hey, if they're so smart, how did they get that way? A-HA! From us! WE DID IT! We gave them the tools, we gave them encouragement, we gave them our time, now look at them go! We did it, YOU did it, pat yourself on the back. We are smart homeschool Moms and we got that way teaching our kids. TM : ) The Correct Answer 05/21/2010
As a homeschool Mom, I am always trying to stay ahead of my children. It's like a race to see who can come up with the correct answer first, or at least who can argue the point best. This, of course, is a race unknown to my kids. Little do they know, I'm in the dark corner researching and preparing for their questions. "MOM! Do you know how blah, blah, blah makes the blah, blah, blah turn different shades of green?" Me: "Uhhhh, did you look in the dictionary?" I'm constantly on my toes when it comes to witty remarks, especially when the words come out of my mouth. "Why do you think the blah, blah, blah turns green?" And if I've been doing my job right, they usually come up with the correct answer all on their own. So I've made it through another week of staying in front, if you need me, you'll find me in the dark corner doing my research. TM : ) P.S. Have the greatest weekend! New Title 05/11/2010

There is nothing she can't do. Did you figure it out? Of course you did. I'm talking about you! TM : ) More Than a Mom 04/06/2010
There are days when we need to be more than "Mom". There are days when being "Mom" is hard work. There are days when being "Mom" is such a reward and nothing can take that feeling away. What? OH of course! Let me change it up a bit... Homeschool Moms work hard everyday at being more than a "Mom" and are rewarded with the closeness (not to mention how smart her kids are) of her family, and nothing can take that feeling away... EVER! TM : ) Calling ALL Moms! 03/24/2010
