What a day!  I hope you had the best Friday ever, because I sure did!  : )  Today was the day that I got to see about 80 homeschooled kids smile and laugh with all their friends and new friends at the 6th Annual Valentine's Party Park Day.  There must have been about 150 people there.  What a turn out.  Who says that homeschoolers don't know how to socialize!

I completely forgot.  My kids reminded me last night, "There's no school tomorrow!"  What?  No school?  Really?  Yep, no school.  But that didn't keep me from at least showing this short video and having a conversation about the importance of that speech 48 years ago...  TM : )

Holiday List 12/23/2010
 
At the end of today, I will close up shop (my computer) for the rest of the holiday and enjoy the sights and sounds of the hustle and bustle of one of the busiest times of the year. I have a Top 10 List of stuff that I want to remember, so I'll post it here in case I forget...

AskTracy's Top 10- Don't Forget to do List during the Holidays
  1. Laugh lots.
  2. Bake lots of cookies with the kids and not worry about the mess everywhere.
  3. Play board games and make up goofy rules like switching spots with your opponents every 3rd turn, that ought to drive the kids nuts!
  4. Sing Christmas Carols off key, on purpose, and extra loud!
  5. Be thankful that we have our health.
  6. Hug my children and then, hug them again.
  7. STOP TEACHING!  I know it's automatic when you're a homeschool Mom to always think about the next lesson, but just for a few days, let us just be... Mom.
  8. Breathe!
  9. Thank my husband for all his love and encouragement throughout the year while I was frantically worried that my children weren't learning enough  (It's just a myth that we homeschool Moms always think we don't do enough, thank goodness for husbands and family members that remind us of how much we do!).
  10. Thank YOU!  Without all your thoughtful comments and words of encouragement, I don't think I would have lasted as long as I have.  What a privilege that you come and visit me when you have a moment to escape your daily homeschool rituals. I guess I can check off #10 on my list!

Holiday Madness! 12/22/2010
 
Two more days before Christmas and the chaos to just drive down the street to buy some milk is crazy!  The combination of rain and last minute shoppers probably has something to do with it.  Ahhh, the joys of the holiday season!  BEEP, BEEP, "The light doesn't get any greener!"  HONK, HONK, "Come on Buddy, you're blocking the whole lane!","Mom? What's for dinner?" 

 STOP!  
Okay, breathe.  Again, deep breath... when you're feeling stressed and you're frantically trying to get things done, take a deep breath.  And then to put you in a better mood, sing!  Yep, we all know the words... "It's the holiday season, the holiday season, and whoopty-doo and dickery-dock and don't forget to hang up your sock..."  real LOUD now, "HE'LL BE COMING DOWN THE CHIMNEY NOW..."  singing off key is better yet and it'll make you laugh.  Try it.  I promise you'll forget about the madness in the streets, your kids will be embarrassed and you'll actually forget that the person in the silver truck is honking at you.  Honking at Me?  lol   TM : ) 
 
 
Enjoy your time with your family this week, I know I will!  I'm taking a little break from writing this week, but I'll be back after the turkey is gone. : )  I'm leaving you with a repeat from last year called, "Thankful."

Thankful.
That's how I feel this time of the year as the Thanksgiving holiday approaches. With many uncertain of what the near future holds, there is a constant in our homeschool lives that will remain... our strength with our hearts and minds... to pass that along to our children is a thankful gift in itself.  TM : )

The weather is cooling down where I live.  The radio started playing Christmas music today.  It's Friday.  I'm getting excited that the holidays are right around the corner and I'm in a great mood!

Today's curriculum?  Writing lists.  Thanksgiving menu, shopping list, to do list... doesn't that count for writing and organization?  I let my youngest be in charge of the list.  She sits at the counter and writes while I call out what we need in the pantry.  She reads it to me during the planning and the shopping, and she remind me what we need to do and what we need to get.  You won't find this curriculum in a textbook.  This is fun learning at its best!

Summer... It's the start of the 4th of July weekend.  How will you celebrate?  BBQ?  Beach?  Camping?  Gardening?  Maybe remind your kids why we celebrate the 4th?  I'll do the latter for sure.  Happy 4th!   TM : )

Happy Friday!  But this is more than just a Friday, it's a 3 day holiday weekend that also includes the official start to... SUMMER!  Congratulations on making it through the school year of teaching your children that they can be the BEST at whatever they choose to be.  Wether your homeschool year was a year, a month, or a week, wrap your arms around your body and give yourself a BIG hug , tell yourself, "I did it!"  There is nothing more important than teaching your children to be the best that they can be... NOTHING.

So now that summer is officially here, I will actually take a little break, refresh, rejuvenate, and have a new view when I get back to my computer in a few weeks.     Aloha, AskTracy : )
